With unusual enthusiasm, Gujarat goes after activist-couple Teesta and Javed. What can explain the over-enthusiasm of the Gujarat police in investigating a case of alleged cheating involving amounts claimed to range from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 3 crore? Or the insistence, for that matter, of the Gujarat High Court that Teesta Setalvad and Javed Anand, perhaps India’s best-known activist couple, who run Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP), be arrested and subjected to “custodial interrogation” to probe the charges? This clumsy arm­-twisting seems desig­ned to pressure them into giving up the pursuit of charges of inaction and complicity against Narendra Modi, then chief minister of Gujarat, in the post-Godhra riots of 2002.

A large number of activists gathered outside Dadar Railway Station in Mumbai on Sunday (15-2-2015) evening for a public demonstration of solidarity with Teesta Setalvad & Javed Anand who are being hounded by Gujarat police with false cases. Famous film maker Anand Patwardhan, renowned writer-activist Dr. Ram Puniyani, AIDWA Maharashtra Secretary Sonya Gill, CITU leader Dr.Vivek Monteiro, Dolphy D’souza, Subodh More, Vandana Shah, Sumedh Jadhav and several eminent citizens of Mumbai participated in the meeting organized by Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) Maharashtra committee. DYFI Condemns Move to Install Godse Statue, Asks PM to Act

THE Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has strongly opposed the move of the Hindu Mahasabha to erect statues of Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi, in major cities of the country. DYFI condemned the silence of the government in the matter. The Central Executive Committee of DYFI submitted a petition to the Prime Minister and demanded that the government must firmly disallow all such moves aimed at promoting Godse cult in our country. It further said the central government must instruct all state governments to firmly disallow such plans.
