DYFI strongly protests the bar on women make-up artists in the bollywood and other regional Indian film industries.

The Central Executive Committee of the Democratic Youth Federation of India Strongly protests the bar on women make-up artists in the bollywood and other regional Indian film industries. This bar is gender biased and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Ministry of labour should immediately intervene in the issue.

While women work in most areas including technicians and hairdressers industry does not allow them to work as make-up artists. This type of discrimination should not be permitted. The government should ensure that the entire qualified women make up artists are allowed to work in film industries.

This ban has been in place for the last 59 years and the livelihoods of thousands of women make-up artists have been affected so far. Instead of doing the works of their choice they have been restricted mainly to weddings and fashion shows.

The CEC of DYFI appeals for an immediate action from the government and other concerned authorities to lift up this gender insensitive ban and ensure a good work atmosphere for women make-up artists in the Indian film industry.
